INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:

Unzip and put all files ending in ".package" into this folder:
C:\..\My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads
Or if you are a frequent downloader, it might help you organize your downloads better if you created a new folder and named it "Simslice", like this:
C:\..\My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads\Simslice

(Note: The "Downloads" folder is not created when the game is installed, but only when the auto-installer from the game is first used. So if you don't have this "Downloads" folder or if you are new to downloading, simply create the folder in that location (spelled exactly the same - use the capital "D"))

DESCRIPTION:

Food Replicator!
Buy Mode Price: 3,500
Buy Mode Category: Appliances --> Cooking
Statistics: Hunger 10; Fun 2
Enabled for use at-home and on all away-from-home lots
Requirements: None - made to work with any version of The Sims 2

Object Description:

Not enough time to cook breakfast before the carpool arrives? Tired of burning down the kitchen when you heat up some soup? Make that antiquated refrigerator a thing of the past! Instantly replicate a hearty meal for yourself or a group meal for friends and family. Your food choice is punched in the computer by your Sim, the machine materializes the food in the slot, the sim pulls it out and starts eating right away. Group meals also available, which will serve 8 plates instead of the standard 6... so you can finally feed those large families with only one serving. Up to eighty-two (82) different food dishes are programmed into this replicator, including beverages, custom-made foods and ALL the in-game meals! No cooking skills required. Food beams into the replicator ala Star Trek fashion almost instantly. Dazzling special effects, sounds and humorous surprises make this a "Fun" object for your Sims too. Best of all, no expansions are required! (but if you have Nightlife, Seasons, Bon Voyage or FreeTime, you'll see additional effects and food options). Additional info in the enclosed "readme" file. Enjoy! :)

UPDATED JULY 12, 2006:
Added three (3) new custom-made foods:
- Leg of Lamb
- Juicy Roast
- Christmas Cookies.

UPDATED JUNE 19, 2007:
Added the four (4) new Fish dishes from the Seasons expansion (if you have it) -- in both single and group meal options:
- Bass
- Catfish
- Rainbow Trout
- Golden Trout

UPDATED DECEMBER 2007:
Added the nine (9) new dishes from the Bon Voyage expansion (if you have it) -- in both single and group meal options:
From the Island "Taste of the Tropics Food Stand":

From the Far East "Nutritious Noodles Food Stand":

Bon Voyage Users: Eating the Chirashi, Pineapple Surprise or Flapjacks won't give your Sim the Vacation Momento as they do when eaten from the Food Stands on a Vacation Destination Lot.

UPDATED MAY 2008:
Added the five (5) new dishes from the FreeTime expansion (if you have it) -- in both single and group meal options:
- Grandma's Comfort Soup (formerly only available as a Lifetime Aspiration Benefit)
- Appetizer Platter (formerly only available as a Cuisine Hobby Reward)
- Cheese Platter (formerly only available as a Cuisine Hobby Reward)
- Chips Platter (formerly only available as a Cuisine Hobby Reward)
- Protein Shake Snack (formerly only available as a Fitness Hobby Reward) - comes as "single" option only

All coding for replicator and food files, and some minor changes to the replicator texture were done by Homeslice. Other custom meals made by Homeslice include a Gingerbread House, Cornucopia (horn), and Fruit Bowl. These three are included here. All Simslice beverages previously made and posted on our website are also "beamable" here, if you have them in your game (i.e. Six-Pack of Beer, Red Slice Energy Drink, Friendship Flask, Under the Influence Flask and both Edible Vampire Bats). These seven objects are not included here and if you don't already have them but want to use them, you need to download them separately from our Sims 2 Objects page here:

http://www.simslice.com/thesims2/ts2objects.htm
OR if they are not on this page, try the latter pages OR use our keyword Search Page here: http://www.simslice.com/search.html

NOTE: For those who have used custom foods before, you do NOT need to install any third-party patches to have the custom food removed from the plate after it is eaten. We took care of all that in these files. :)

Special thanks to Mickyss for making this really cool looking model/texture for the Food Replicator!
Thanks also to FoxieRoxieNYC for allowing inclusion of her Chicken Teriyaki, Falafel and Broiled Steak au Jus meals.

GAME PLAY INFO:

Try using the replicator at night -- the effects are bright and complex and (I think) it looks pretty cool!

Standard game group meals only serve six (6) plates per meal. All group meals replicated here will serve EIGHT (8) plates which should feed a full family if needed. Sims have to pull the plate out of the replicator themselves, except for Pizza and Chinese Takeout which can be "Served".

If your replicator is full, or if it contains an empty plate, your Sims might pull it out while cleaning up other plates, or you can select "Clean Replicator" to beam-away anything in the slot and make it ready for the next meal.

The replicator recycles it's own power so it will not add to your power bills. Because of this, it will never need to be restocked like a refrigerator either. Eat whatever you want, day or night, 24/7/365 at no cost (other than the purchase price).

The replicator can sit on any raised surface: table, counter, endtable, etc. It is not made to sit on OFB shelves.

The chance of a Replicator error is rare. Sims with higher Mechanical Skills (8 or higher) have the least chance, although Sims with perfect Mechanical Skills (10) will never make an error. What is a replicator error? Just one of five "surprises" -- you'll know it when you see it, but your Sims may not find it very appetizing... ;)

Sims gain some Fun points when they use the replicator. Sims will get more Fun points if they replicate a plate of food while their Hunger points are greater than zero (they will still get Fun points if less than zero, but not as many... they want the food more). Sims cleaning the replicator ("doing the dishes" by beaming away unused or empty plates), if they have a Playful score of 4 or more, they will gain Fun points too.

If food is left in the replicator, on occasion you might see Sims approach it from different angles and grab a plate seeming through the side. That's just because the "eat" action is pushed by the plate for reachability at any angle, not by the replicator. No biggie.

You might notice when you make a group meal that requires a bowl, that the option to "Consume" might remain even if it is empty. Just "Clean Replicator" as usual to empty the slot for more food.

During testing, food NEVER got stuck in the replicator. Food can always be removed via "Clean Replicator". Buuuuut if it does by some waaaaay off chance then you may need to use the moveobjects cheat to delete it (as you know, items with "something in it", for example food, can't be deleted in Buy Mode). If you don't know how to use this cheat, just type Ctrl+Shift+C then type "moveobjects on" (without the quotes), click on the replicator and delete it, then type Ctrl+Shift+C then type "moveobjects off". Don't forget that last part, it's very important. Again, we don't see why you would need to use this cheat here, buuuuuuut just in case.... :)

Because players need expansion packs to use double-nested pie menus, we didn't use them here (we wanted this replicator to work in all versions of The Sims 2). We also realize people want to eat what they want, regardless of the time of day. So the foods are ordered in the following categories:

1) Hearty - filling, hearty meals
2) Dessert - sweets and sugary stuff
3) Fast Food - burgers, take-out food and the like, or food that is made ready to eat without preparation.
4) Breakfast - self explanatory
5) Fancy - hoity toity foods for Sims with the discriminating palette.
6) Drinks - Beverages such as Juice, flasks, beer, etc.

Sims don't like the Baby Food. I doubt you can make 'em eat it. ;)

Some foods require expansion packs (the Filet Mignon for example will only show if you have Nightlife installed). All game foods and beverages are included so the more expansions you have, the more options you'll see available. Here is a list of the food that this replicator can materialize (updated May 2008):

Cereal
Chef's Salad
Chili Con Carne
Baked Alaska

* The items flagged by this asterisk (*) are custom Simslice creations. You can download these Simslice items here: http://www.simslice.com/thesims2/ts2objects.htm
Note: Objects shift to latter pages over time, so if you don't find it there, try the next page. Or try searching by keyword via our Search Page here: http://www.simslice.com/search.html

The Simslice items listed above are not included in this .zip file for a few reasons. For one, it's harder to maintain version control of those items for potential future updates. But chances are that more people have them in their games already because those downloads were made earlier and have been posted on our site far longer than this replicator. Also the .zip file size for the replicator download was about as large as we wanted it to be.

Some of these Simslice consumables are not usable by children (the "Under the Influence" Flask for example), but children can still materialize them for others. The replicator will check to make sure you meet any expansion pack requirements so, for example if you download the beer but DO NOT have the University expansion pack, it will not show in your game since University is required to use the beer objects.

Note that a few Single Meal options, such as Juice for example, do not appear in the Group Meal options.

MORE STAR TREK CONTENT:

Not that this replicator was designed to look like the Star Trek versions, but it does use some trek-like graphics and behaves basically the same way. NEED MORE HELP?:

If you have any questions about downloading, unzipping and installing, please visit our FAQ page which has very detailed instructions at http://www.simslice.com/faq.htm

Any problems with crashes, freezes or objects not showing up are 99.9% of the time related to either "requirements" not being met, OR a fluke in the downloading/installing process... but it's NOT because of the actual object coding itself. Check our FAQ page for a very detailed list of these issues and resolutions you can do to resolve them. Typically the fix is to double check the requirements, and if you meet them, then delete and redownload the item. Do NOT use Simzip to unzip them. Further information as previously stated, is detailed on our FAQ page at http://www.simslice.com/faq.htm. If you still need help after consulting our FAQ page, please contact us and we'll try to help further.
