INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:

UPDATE: Updated the file to work with the The Pets expansion pack, if you have it. If you don't, it doesn't matter because this object also works with any version of The Sims 2.

Unzip and put ONLY ONE file ending in ".package" into this folder:
C:\..\My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads
Or if you are a frequent downloader, it might help you organize your downloads better if you created a new folder and named it "Simslice", like this:
C:\..\My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads\Simslice

(Note: The "Downloads" folder is not created when the game is installed, but only when the auto-installer from the game is first used. So if you don't have this "Downloads" folder or if you are new to downloading, simply create the folder in that location (spelled exactly the same - use the capital "D"))

DESCRIPTION:

The Appraisenator!
Buy Mode Price: 9850
Buy Mode Category: Electronics
Statistics: Room 10; Fun 2
Enabled for use at-home and in Community and University lots
Works with any version of The Sims 2 game

Object Description:

A hi-tech new way to earn a living at home, and appreciate your decor at the same time. This flat-panel machine will scan your room and appraise the value of all your art and Decorative objects - and display it in a convenient dialog window for you. And if you want, it can also increase the value of that object too! For example, you can now make a living at home doing fun Creative tasks (like painting) and use The Appraisenator to increase the value of your art and decor, which you can then sell for higher than normal prices. The increase in value is mathematically related to the number of Creativity Points your Sim has, so the more Creativity Points, the more value will be added to your objects. But there is a cost to this benefit. Keep working on your Creativity Points because this machine will decrease them (by one point only) with each use, but the resulting payoff will make all your skill-building efforst worthwhile! There are some other fun computer interactions and surprises in here too that I think will make this not only a practical, but a fun object to have. I hope you enjoy it. :) Additional details are below, and in the "Help" pie menu option in the game.

GAME PLAY INFO:

Best use for this object is to appraise the value of all your art (and more) through one convenient object, and increase their monetary values. If you want, you can make a living working at home, on fun Creative skill-builders, and using your Creativity to increase art values via this machine, and then sell them back via Buy Mode at higher than normal prices (the more Creativity Points you have, the more money you can make selling back art). Then buy more art, work on your Creative Skills some more, increase object values with the Appraisenator, yadda yadda yadda....

We tried to make this object description detailed and as uncomplicated as possible. This is probably very repetative (sorry):

All interactions with the object are done via a remote control. The Appraisenator is coded to scan only those objects IN THE SAME ROOM that are also categorized in the DECORATIVE Objects section of Buy Mode (such as sculptures and paintings for example) but other non-art objects are in the Decorative Buy Mode category too, and they will be scanned too (for example, the Rubber Tree plant - hey, you could have the most valueable Rubber Tree in the neighborhood!). :p Anyway, that's why we threw the word "decor" along with "art" in with the description. Now, recolored or "hacked" downloads from other sites are not easily predictable -- if the object maker relocated it's buy category in Buy Mode, but not it's internal category "type" code, then those items might or might not be scannable as "true" Decorative objects (but most of they time they probably will be). There might even be Maxis made objects in the Decorative section that are coded improperly and not scannable as Decorative types, although we never noticed any during testing. So that probably won't happen.

Each time you use the "Scan Room" feature, it will display one object at a time, listing it's name and value, along with your Creativity score and the amount it can be increased. If you do nothing else but read the info, you will NOT lose any Creativity Points. But if you increase the value of an object (or objects), the "appreciation" is transfered and it will cost you one Creativity Point at the end when all is said and done. A popup dialog will tell you this in the game, so you will be well informed of everything that happens (in an admittedly silly-techy-geeky kinda way). :p But it is ONLY one Creativity Point sacrificed, regardless of the number of object values you increase. The amount of the value increase is a mathematical derivative of your total Creativity Points. So the higher your Creativity Points are, the higher you can increase the value of your objects. Well, that's basically it. I threw in some new interactions, sounds and a few lil' surprises (including an arguement with the computer) that I think you'll enjoy too. :)

If you click on the object in the game, there are two "Help..." pie menu options that will provide you with information (some helpul, some.... well you'll see....) :p

This object is a flat-panel wall device, and although it functions at night it will not emit light in a dark room. Also like most wall hanging objects, if you drop your walls it will seem to "disappear". But it didn't - just raise your walls back up and you'll see it. It's the same way with all game paintings, curtains, etc.

If you have The Sims 2 University expansion pack installed, the remote control will have much better animations and sounds. If you don't have an expansion installed, it will sound similar to a phone handset.

Anyone from children on up can use the Appraisenator. Guest and Visitors cannot for obvious reasons. Art has no say in the matter.

NEED MORE HELP?:

If you have any questions about downloading, unzipping and installing, please visit our FAQ page which has very detailed instructions at http://www.simslice.com/faq.htm

Any problems with crashes, freezes or objects not showing up are 99.9% of the time related to either "requirements" not being met, OR a fluke in the downloading/installing process... but it's NOT because of the actual object coding itself. Check our FAQ page for a very detailed list of these issues and resolutions you can do to resolve them. Typically the fix is to double check the requirements, and if you meet them, then delete and redownload the item. Do NOT use Simzip to unzip them. Further information as previously stated, is detailed on our FAQ page at http://www.simslice.com/faq.htm. If you still need help after consulting our FAQ page, please contact us and we'll try to help further.
