INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:

Unzip and put all three (3) files ending in ".package" into this folder:
C:\..\My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads
Or if you are a frequent downloader, it might help you organize your downloads better if you created a new folder and named it "Simslice", like this:
C:\..\My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads\Simslice

(Note: The "Downloads" folder is not created when the game is installed, but only when the auto-installer from the game is first used. So if you don't have this "Downloads" folder or if you are new to downloading, simply create the folder in that location (spelled exactly the same - use the capital "D"))

DESCRIPTION:

Newspaper Dispenser
Buy Mode Price: 79
Buy Mode Category: Hobbies -> Knowledge
Statistics: Fun 4; Environment 1
Enabled for use at-home and on all away-from-home lots
Requirements: None - made to work with any version of The Sims 2 game.

Object Description:

We see 'em everywhere but what are these things called anyway? Newspaper box? Newspaper Vending Machine? Well, whatever ya call 'em, no community is complete without 'em. Now you can buy a newspaper anytime you want. Articles, crosswords, etc. it has it all! Unlike regular newspapers, there is no limit to how many you can have and they do not expire the next day. Papers cost 2 each on away-from-home lots... but on your home/residential lot you can earn 2 profit from each visitor that buys a paper (and get free papers yourself). The available jobs listed in the want ads vary from paper to paper... even during the same day! A special "clean up" option is incluced to conveniently (and instantly) recycle any discarded papers. Any surprises? Ohhhh yah yah you betcha...

GAME PLAY INFO:

If you put Newspaper Dispensers on your residential lot, visitors to your home will pay 2 for each newspaper, which your Sim earns as profit. Family members do not have to pay for newspapers. However if you put a Newspaper Vending Machine on a non-residential lot (Community lot for example), everybody pays 2 per paper, including family members and they do not earn a profit.

The name of the paper is the New City Courier. Buy as many newspapers as you want, they will never "go bad" the next day, nor will they prevent the paperboy from bringing your regular editions of the SimCity Cronicle (the regular newspaper in the game).

Unfortunately, the Dispenser will not animate while opening - the available animations object makers have to work with just weren't supportive of that kind of action (not even the dishwasher anims). But Sims will still be able to reach down and get their newspapers.

Getting a Job: If you don't like the job selections, you can buy another newspaper and it will have three new offers. Edit -- Pets EP Alert: It was just brought to our attention that the "Find A Job" feature (in the New City Courier) doesn't provide jobs if you have the Pets expansion pack. It might have something to do with the way the unpatched newspaper code scans for pre-existing jobs, coupled with the addition of the new jobs that came with the Pets ep. It is being looked into. Until a resolution is found, just use the standard means to obtain your new jobs (e.g. regular newspaper, computer).

You may notice that on occassion, if the object is out in the open and a Sim passes close by it, they may walk through the side just a little bit. The base object is smaller than this one, and the game thinks they are the same size. It's no biggie, just an aesthetic issue I wanted to point out just in case it happens.

When vandalized, the object can falls backwards (or just wobble). If it falls backwards, and there's a wall or other object flush against it, it will appear to be inside that wall or object. It can't be helped, it's just the way the object animations work. We do one day want to improve these animations, and also improve the look of the bottom of the object (which you only notice when it's lying on it's back).

If the machine is knocked over, it will not work. It has to be stood upright again first before it can be used for anything.

If you vandalize the Newspaper Vending Machine and are attacked by a vigilante Sim, afterwards the vigilante may still be in "run" mode instead of "walk" mode. That's because they are still pumped up from the fight. :p They will eventually revert back to walk mode again, but if you want it to happen faster and you have control of the Sim, just direct them to use an object that usually encourages running. The toilet, for example, encourages Sims to run to it when their bladder is full, and it is coded to revert the Sim back to walk mode afterwards (whether the Sim is walking or running to it, the code still does this). So in this example, just click "Use" on the toilet, and the sim will immediately revert to walk mode. You don't even need to use the toilet if you don't want to -- if you cancel the action before the Sim reaches it, they will still revert back to walk mode. Cool huh? HUH!? Well, ok maybe not but it still works. :p

Surprises: There are many surprises. If you are curious and don't want to find out on your own, just write us and ask. :)

NEED MORE HELP?:

If you have any questions about downloading, unzipping and installing, please visit our FAQ page which has very detailed instructions at http://www.simslice.com/faq.htm

Any problems with crashes, freezes or objects not showing up are 99.9% of the time related to either "requirements" not being met, OR a fluke in the downloading/installing process... but it's NOT because of the actual object coding itself. Check our FAQ page for a very detailed list of these issues and resolutions you can do to resolve them. Typically the fix is to double check the requirements, and if you meet them, then delete and redownload the item. Do NOT use Simzip to unzip them. Further information as previously stated, is detailed on our FAQ page at http://www.simslice.com/faq.htm. If you still need help after consulting our FAQ page, please contact us and we'll try to help further.
