DESCRIPTION:

"Rain Maker" Obelisk by Simslice.com
Buy Mode Price: 1969
Buy Mode Category: Electronics
Enabled for use at-home or on Community lots
Works with any version of The Sims 2 game

Object Description:
Approach this ancient droplet-looking obelisk and do your "Rain Dance". If your dance is deemed worthy, the Rain Maker will send a signal to the atmosphere and soon afterwards your lot will fill with the pitter patter of little rain drops. Rain shower can last several Sim hours, depending on the severity of the storm you chose. The actual weather itself is based upon the rain originally intended for The Sims 2 game that was abandoned prior to it's release.

IMPORTANT GAMEPLAY INFORMATION:

The Obelisk:

This has four options: "Light Rain", "Heavy Rain", "Thunderstorm" and "Lightening". It will not allow duplicate rain storms to exist on the lot (so one storm comes at a time...). The "Rain Dance" will vary upon each use with 8 different moves, and totaling over 6,000 possible dance combinations! The obelisk also checks the Charisma points of the Sim - after all, anyone can mimic a dance move but only those with panache can make it work! ;) So Sims with low Charisma run a risk of not having their dance be "deemed worthy"... and it can be a shocking revelation... ;)

The Rain itself:

It is based on the rain codes made by Maxis which they intended to release with the Sims 2 game, but didn't (the files were still in it, but they were rendered unusable). The publicly stated reason they abandoned weather was because of certain problems, such as it raining indoors. I had a similar problem when I made rainy weather for the original Sims game, and found a way around it. Hopefully that can be done here as well, but who knows. So for now, it will rain inside, and it won't splatter rain drops on roofs or balconies. Because of this alone, it makes sense that they chose not to release it with the final Sims 2 game. If the aesthetics don't bother you, I think you'll enjoy this!

In the Thunderstorm, there is the possibility for a power-outage. This is a cool feature they were working on, and probably didn't complete but it will eventually show if you use the Thunderstorm option. Now, the power outage shouldn't affect all appliances, but it should knock out outside ones (such as lights). This code wasn't completed, as you'll see when the pop up window after power is restored, prints a string variable for you ;) But it should be no biggie otherwise.

Rain showers all over the lot, so it might slow your game down a little. Showers will last for several hours before they stop.

I've played it extensively, in all types of rainy weather, and thus far don't see any other major code issues, but be warned -- there might still be instabilities in it that were overlooked. I'll keep at it, just in case. But feedback from you is always welcome too. I recommend you use the Obelisk first WITHOUT saving your game - just until you get the hang of it and feel comfortable. This rain is not perfect, so don't expect it to be. But overall I think even as it is, it's a really really fun new addition to The Sims 2 game and I hope you enjoy it.

Happy Holidays!

NEED MORE HELP?:

If you have any questions about downloading, unzipping and installing, please visit our FAQ page which has very detailed instructions at http://www.simslice.com/faq.htm

Any problems with crashes, freezes or objects not showing up are 99.9% of the time related to either "requirements" not being met, OR a fluke in the downloading/installing process... but it's NOT because of the actual object coding itself. Check our FAQ page for a very detailed list of these issues and resolutions you can do to resolve them. Typically the fix is to double check the requirements, and if you meet them, then delete and redownload the item. Do NOT use Simzip to unzip them. Further information as previously stated, is detailed on our FAQ page at http://www.simslice.com/faq.htm. If you still need help after consulting our FAQ page, please contact us and we'll try to help further.
